The developers have made massive changes to the Battle Mode in the latest version of Mario Kart. Now, there are eight new battle maps and five different modes to pick from. All these modes are different from each other, so it can be a little more challenging for the players.

To help you win these new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Battle Modes, we have provided you a guide and some tricks. Also, you can have an insight of all these game modes here to be better prepared before going on a race online or playing against your friends.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Battle Mode

Though all the five modes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are different but there is one similarity. Since it is a racing game, you will find yourself driving around in vehicles and racing with each other in all these modes. But this racing would be more objective oriented than just reaching the finish line. In some of these modes, you may team up with 5 other racers to battle in 6v6 scenarios.

Balloon Battle

In this Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Battle Mode, the Balloons serve as the health bar for each player. Your goal is to burst the other player’s balloon while protecting your own. The Balloon Battle Modes takes place in battle arenas instead of the racing tracks. The players have to drive around in circles around the same area. While getting a ride, they try to pick up health bars and take each other down.

The more hits you land on an opponent the more scores you get. Each player rolls out with five balloons and one hit bursts one balloon. If you lose all of your balloons, it does not mean that it’s the end of the game for you. In its place, you will lose a big chunk of your accumulated points. The player with the most hits becomes the winner at the end. There will be a map on the bottom right corner showing the players with the highest points. So, it would be better to target those players and grab points from them.

Renegade Roundup

This Battle mode is like Cops versus Robbers, or as known in the game Authority versus Renegades. It takes place in teams of six with the Authority team strapped with Piranha Plants. The Renegades team has to drive around the arena and collect power-ups to protect themselves from Piranha plants.

If one Renegades gets eaten by the plant, he is transferred to the jail on the other side of the map. He cannot escape from there until any other Renegades helps him. If all the Renegades get arrested, the game will be end and Authority team will be the winner.

Freeing arrested Renegades should be your priority. To do that you need to open the cell door by hitting the big switch underneath the cage with the key on it. Freeing your teammate ends up adding scores to your team. You can also avoid arrest by using Coins littered to get the speed boost and escape from Piranhas.

Bob-Omb Blast

This Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Battle Mode is a modified version of Balloon mode. In this Battle mode, the players can hold up to 10 bob-ombs at a time and then try to burst the balloons of the opponents. However, it is better to avoid a large group of players in this mode so that players don’t lose their own balloons and points getting damaged from a stray bob-omb. A small team can target others and escape the area before the bob-omb blow up to avoid damage.

Coin Runners

In this mode, the players need to get as many coins as they can before the timer runs out. If they get hit by other players they will drop their coins on the ground which can be pick up by the opponents. In this Battle mode, you should avoid others and your main goal should be survival except if you have lost your all points and is in need to pick up the coins. Once you get enough coins, you should again focus on your rescue.

Shine Thief

The Shine Thief Mode allows the player to grab shine and hold it for twenty seconds while avoiding others. There is just one shine on the map and every player tries to snatch it. When a player gets hit, they drop Shine on the floor and it can be picked up by other players.

Using a Super Star or mushroom will help the player to steal a shine directly from the opponents rather than picking it from ground. The best way to win this mode is to use a fast kart soothe player do not only get the shine but also can hold it for twenty seconds.
